Accoya® is world leading high technology wood. It is produced from a non-toxic cellular modification process known as acetylation. The softwood used in this process is Radiata Pine sourced from sustainably managed forests in New Zealand. The result is a durable, stable and non-toxic material with performance characteristics better than any hardwood. Accoya holds industry leading environmental credentials. The exceptional durability of Accoya is warranted for a minimum life of 50 years above ground and 25 years in-ground.

Accoya wood is perfect for many outdoor and indoor applications such as cladding, decking, panelling, timber fins, fences and joinery.

Board lengths range from 1.8m to 4.8m

Durability

  • Warranty is 50 years above ground, 25 years in-ground or fresh water
  • Exceeds the properties of most durable hardwoods

Dimensional Stability

  • Suitable for any weather condition
  • Welling and shrinkage is minimal
  • Reduced maintenance costs
  • Wide profiles are achievable

Sustainability

  • Sourced from sustainable forests in New Zealand and FSC® certified
  • Accoya is certified by all the major sustainability programs including Cradle to Cradle™ and Declare
  • Accoya is naturally renewable

Non-toxic & recyclable

  • The acetylation process is a non-toxic process, off cuts and waste can be safely burned or disposed of as untreated timber
  • No harmful effects possible in habitable spaces
  • Able to be safely re-used, recycled and incinerated

Perfect for coating

  • There is no restriction on colour with black and dark colours possible
  • Improved stability means coatings last up to two times longer
  • Easier to coat requiring less preparation and sanding

No need to apply chemical preservatives when cut or planed.

Contact with metals

All wood contains organic acids, although the quantity varies by species. These organic acids contribute to the corrosion of metal fasteners used in wood.

Tests have shown that base metals and galvanised metals, in direct contact with wood containing acids, will corrode in damp climatic conditions. It is therefore strongly recommended that high quality stainless steel (316), corrosion resistant aluminium or naval brass products be used in areas exposed to moisture or condensation. Any metal with Accoya wood needs to be coated or separated to avoid direct contact.

Weathering

From a technical performance perspective, there is no need to finish Accoya wood because it is extremely durable and dimensionally stable. However, like any natural wood species, Accoya wood is susceptible to weathering in outdoor circumstances.

Greying

Because Accoya wood is highly resistant to rotting, it is often used in applications where it can be left uncoated. It will weather off naturally to a silver-grey colour, due to physical and biological processes that take place within the top layer.

Appearance

A wet and dry board may vary in appearance. Due to installation details, the presence of shaded areas and the natural differences between boards, some boards may dry quicker than others. This will reflect on the appearance of the surface whilst drying and will have an influence on the development of surface moulds, algae and so on.

Surface Growths

Acetylation of wood is a non-toxic process, and as such, does not influence resistance against surface mould and yeast growth. In damp areas, there is high risk that surface growth will develop on Accoya wood, as it would on other softwood species, but the incidence of blue stain development is rare.

Accoya is supplied as rough sawn and planed wood in various sizes and grades.

Uses: Limitless! The acetylation process makes pine super durable, super stable and retians all the strength of pine. This makes it an excellent choice for any situation that is starting to push the boundaries of other timbers.
